Falcons to Starting Cooper Rush Against Panthers as Michael Penix Jr. Advances in Recovery
The Atlanta Falcons are seeking their first win of the 2026 season as they host the Carolina Panthers. Coach Kevin Stefanski announced that veteran quarterback Cooper Rush will start after taking first-team reps in practice. Michael Penix Jr. remains sidelined as he recovers from an ACL tear. Tua Tagovailoa is also out due to an oblique injury. In the season opener, Rush struggled, completing 12 of 22 passes for 143 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions, resulting in the lowest passer rating among starting quarterbacks. The Falcons hope for improved performance against the Panthers, despite their opponent’s weak defense.
