Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones thinks the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants and Washington Commanders had better watch out for “America’s Team” this season.
“I will say that Philadelphia, and if you will the Giants and Washington team, they need to be on their game because we are,” Jones recently declared, according to Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Both the Giants (9-7-1) and Cowboys (12-5) qualified for the postseason tournament this past January, but the Eagles went 14-3 to win the division and finish the 2022 regular season atop the overall conference standings. New York and Dallas each notched a single road playoff win but then fell in the following round, while Philadelphia smashed both Big Blue and the San Francisco 49ers en route to completing a trip to Super Bowl LVII.
As of Tuesday afternoon, OddsChecker listed the Eagles as the betting favorites at +330 odds to represent the NFC in Super Bowl LVIII this coming February. The 49ers were second behind Philadelphia at +400 odds, followed by the Cowboys at +650.
The Giants were eighth at +2500.
“We’re going to be on our game,” Jones continued. “And we will be improved over last year. I don’t want to dismiss how accomplished Philadelphia is, the year they had last year and where they’re starting this year. I don’t want to dismiss that. And the Giants definitely have a chance to be better. And Washington could be really energized. So I don’t need to handicap it relative to where we’ll end up. Just us, we are better.”
Jones won’t have to wait long for the Cowboys to either prove his point or cause him to possibly eat his words. Dallas opens the upcoming regular season at none other than the Giants in a “Sunday Night Football” clash on Sept. 10.
