Deadline for Chiefs and Royals offer extended by Kansas
A Kansas legislative committee has extended a deadline for the Chiefs and Royals to take advantage of a stadium financing plan from the state. The extension allows for 70% of a new stadium’s cost to be covered by bonds if the teams decide to relocate to the state. The deadline is now June 30, 2026, with a request for an answer from the teams by Dec. 31 of this year. Both teams have played in Kansas City for over five decades, with leases expiring in 2031. Missouri has also proposed a financing deal for new or renovated stadiums if the teams choose to stay.
