Chiefs’ Reid Clarifies OL Suamataia Was Not Benched as Punishment
Chiefs coach Andy Reid clarified that benching left guard Kingsley Suamataia during the game against the Broncos was not a punishment but a personal decision between them. Despite being a full practice participant and not listed on the injury report, Suamataia only saw limited action while backup Mike Caliendo took most snaps, struggling in pass protection. The team had difficulty running the ball without Suamataia, and Reid emphasized that the benching was a matter of resolving issues, not punishment. Suamataia, a promising 2024 second-round pick, is expected to return as a starter in the next game against the Jets.
