Two additional preseason games bring little excitement on kickoffs
The new kickoff rule in this year’s preseason is supposed to make the games more exciting, but the results so far have been underwhelming. In the first three preseason games, there have been a total of 17 kickoff returns for 405 yards, with an average of 23.8 yards per return. While the rule change has increased the number of returns, it has not added the anticipated excitement to the games yet. It is still too early to draw conclusions from such a small sample size, but the NFL is hopeful that the new rule will eventually make kickoffs more thrilling for football fans.
