Jaguars to decline recently acquired QB’s fifth-year option

Jaguars will not pick up fifth-year option for recently acquired QB

The Jacksonville Jaguars have declined the fifth-year option on quarterback Mac Jones, who was acquired from the New England Patriots. Jones will finish his rookie contract and will not be extended through 2025. The decision was expected as Jones is set to be Trevor Lawrence’s backup. Jones had a promising rookie season but his performance declined in subsequent seasons. The Patriots also declined Jones’ fifth-year option after he was traded. Jones will now enter a contract year and will need to prove himself. The Jaguars have C.J. Beathard signed as a backup, and the team’s depth chart for the upcoming season is uncertain.
