Veteran tight end signed by 49ers
The 49ers signed veteran tight end Eric Saubert to a one-year deal to provide depth at the position. Saubert has played for multiple teams in his seven-year career, primarily serving as a blocker. He had a brief stint with the Texans in 2023, catching three passes in nine games. The 49ers pursued tight end depth after losing Charlie Woerner and unsuccessfully trying to sign Brock Wright. Saubert, who has a similar size to Woerner, is expected to fill the blocking role behind George Kittle. If Kittle gets injured, the 49ers will rely on inexperienced tight ends Brayden Willis, Cameron Latu, and Jake Tonges.
