Chiefs sign Araiza after punter dropped from suit

Chiefs sign Araiza to replace dropped punter in squad

The Kansas City Chiefs signed punter Matt Araiza, who was dismissed from a lawsuit alleging the rape of a 17-year-old girl in 2021. The girl dropped Araiza from the lawsuit, and Araiza dismissed a defamation suit against the girl. Araiza, 23, played in college at San Diego State and was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in 2022 but has never played in an NFL game. The Chiefs’ previous punter, Tommy Townsend, is set to become an unrestricted free agent. The San Diego District Attorney’s office announced that criminal charges would not be filed in the case. Araiza expressed excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to continue his NFL career with the Chiefs.
