Opinion | The Right’s Abnormality Problem with Taylor Swift and Donald Trump
The author expresses concern that American liberalism faced a major defeat in 2024 due to progressive radicalism and a disconnected liberal establishment from American normalcy. However, adaptations within the center-left and conservatism’s inability to be normal, as well as its focus on celebrity paranoias and online conspiracy theories, seem to have alleviated this concern slightly. The author also criticizes the right’s abnormality problem as well, due to a political misalignment that has made the right more inclined towards fringe beliefs and the overlearning of the destabilizing effects of Trump’s election. The goal is to create a new stability, not to be abnormal indefinitely.
