Why the Steelers Traded Joey Porter Jr. to the Cowboys and What’s Next?
Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. has been traded to the Dallas Cowboys after contract negotiations faltered. The Steelers received a sixth-round pick in 2027 and a second-round pick in 2028. Porter, a 2023 second-round draft pick, missed the season’s start due to a back injury and desired a contract extension the Steelers weren’t willing to grant. The Cowboys, struggling with injuries in their secondary, are hopeful Porter will enhance their defense. Analysts graded the trade a B for Dallas and a C+ for Pittsburgh, citing missed opportunities for better compensation for the promising young cornerback.
