YouTube is reportedly in advanced talks to acquire a five-game NFL regular season package, competing with Netflix and Fox Sports. Among the expected matchups is the San Francisco 49ers versus Los Angeles Rams in Australia during Week 1. This comes after ESPN returned extra Monday Night Football games, which the NFL is now repackaging for sale. YouTube previously broadcast an NFL game in Brazil last season and has an existing partnership with the league through NFL Sunday Ticket. If streamed for free, this option may be more appealing than Netflix’s paywall. A decision is expected soon before the schedule release.
