Lawsuit Filed After Scammer Impersonating NFL Star Xavier McKinney Swindles $4.4 Million
A lender, Aliya Sports Finance Fund, accused Sure Sports of negligence after wiring $4.375 million to a borrower impersonating Green Bay Packers player Xavier McKinney. The lawsuit alleges Sure Sports failed to perform adequate due diligence, leading to the loan being scammed. The FBI is investigating the case, which is set for trial on July 13. Sure Sports argues that Aliya had a responsibility to conduct its own checks. Meanwhile, McKinney, an apparent victim of identity theft, is not directly involved in the lawsuit. Aliya aims to protect its investors from what it claims is improper conduct related to the loan.
