NFL: Jude McAtamney elevated to New York Giants’ 53-man roster

Jude McAtamney promoted to New York Giants’ 53-man roster in the NFL

Jude McAtamney, a former Derry Under-20 gaelic footballer, made an impact in his debut for the New York Giants by kicking four out of five points in a 34-17 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. The 25-year-old was promoted to the 53-man roster due to an injury to the regular kicker. He became the first Irish-born kicker to join a ‘first team’ roster since 1985. McAtamney had previously been part of the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program. He had a perfect kicking performance in his first game and contributed to the team’s victory over the previously unbeaten Los Angeles Chargers. He had to be signed to the full squad in order to play against the Eagles after being elevated twice from the practice squad.
