Disney-NFL Partnership Hailed as ESPN’s Significant Milestone by Iger
Disney and the NFL announced a deal where the NFL will take a 10% stake in ESPN in exchange for media assets. This will give ESPN more NFL games than ever before. The deal includes NFL Fantasy being merged with ESPN’s fantasy football offering and extending ESPN’s stewardship of the NFL Draft through 2030. The agreement could take around a year to close due to regulatory approvals. Disney’s sports segment saw a decline in operating income but an increase in ad sales. Direct-to-consumer streaming revenue grew with Disney+ adding subscribers. Additionally, ESPN will host premium WWE events as part of a new deal.
