ESPN parts ways with Shannon Sharpe following resolution of sexual assault case
Shannon Sharpe will not be returning to ESPN after settling a lawsuit filed by a former girlfriend accusing him of rape. The lawsuit was dismissed with prejudice following a private settlement. No criminal charges were filed against Sharpe. The decision for Sharpe to leave ESPN was made quietly by the network. Sharpe, a former NFL player, had been a commentator on First Take alongside Stephen A Smith. He also hosts two popular podcasts. Before the lawsuit, Sharpe was reportedly in talks for a major podcasting deal potentially worth up to $100m, but the status of those negotiations is unclear.
