Lions abandon playoff-reseeding proposal for 2025 NFL season due to lack of support
The Detroit Lions withdrew a proposal to change the NFL playoffs seeding system before a league vote on Wednesday. The proposal aimed to give higher seeding to teams with better regular-season records, rather than division winners. Currently, division winners receive the top four seeds in each conference. The proposal, if accepted, would have seen teams with the best records getting the highest seeding in the playoffs. Despite the Lions scrapping their proposal, it may be revived in the future, especially if the league adopts an 18-game schedule. Team owners were also expected to vote on a proposal to ban the tush push, while approving NFL players’ participation in flag football at the 2028 Summer Olympics.
