Sources: Former NFL coach Patricia expected to become Ohio State’s defensive coordinator
Ohio State is finalizing a deal to make Matt Patricia the new defensive coordinator, with Tim Walton becoming co-defensive coordinator and Matt Guerrieri as pass-game coordinator. Patricia brings NFL experience, having been the New England Patriots’ defensive coordinator and the head coach of the Detroit Lions. Walton’s promotion recognizes his success with Ohio State’s secondary, while Guerrieri has previous coordinator experience. The new staff will lead a defense with few returning starters but high-end talent, including safety Caleb Downs and linebacker Sonny Styles. The departing starters, including the entire defensive line, are expected to be drafted by the NFL.
