New England Patriots secure first victory without Bill Belichick in 24 years
Drake Maye, the third overall pick in the 2024 draft, made his debut with the New England Patriots in a preseason game against the Carolina Panthers. This was the Patriots’ first game without head coach Bill Belichick, who had recently departed the organization. New coach Jerod Mayo led the Patriots to a 17-3 victory. Panthers also had a new coach, Dave Canales, who focused on giving rookies playing time. Maye had a short stint in the game, completing 2 out of 3 passes for 19 yards. The Patriots’ QB rotation included Bailey Zappe and Jacoby Brissett. The Giants also won their preseason game against the Lions.
