Is the Ravens Defense Truly Underperforming?
Jesse Minter and the Ravens defense have faced scrutiny early in the season despite ranking ninth in penalty-adjusted defensive EPA, an improvement from previous years (e.g., 18th and 30th in 2024-2025). However, they have been severely impacted by penalties, ranking 15th in defensive EPA per play when including them. The Ravens have drawn few penalties themselves, contributing to their struggles. With an injured Lamar Jackson, the defense needs to step up, particularly against the run, where they currently rank 21st in EPA allowed. The overall expectation remains that performance will improve as the season progresses.
