Chicago Bears’ Board of Directors Approves Additional Renovations for Indiana Stadium

The Chicago Bears’ board of directors has voted to advance stadium developments in Hammond, Indiana, amid rumors of leaving Illinois. A bill was passed in February to form the Northwest Indiana Stadium Authority, enabling financing and construction of a new domed stadium. The move is motivated by the desire to connect Chicago and its suburbs more effectively. Although the Bears’ current lease in Chicago runs until 2033, it can be broken early with a fee. The franchise has been in Illinois since the 1920s, previously playing at Wrigley Field and Soldier Field.
