NFL OKs up to 10 int’l games in ’27; teams can’t protect games

NFL Approves Up to 10 International Games in ’27; Teams Cannot Block Matchups

The NFL approved a measure allowing up to 10 international games starting in 2027, increasing from the previous limit of eight. This decision, made during the league’s spring meeting, also removes the ability for teams to protect home games from being played internationally. For 2026, there are nine scheduled international games. The league is exploring future host sites, including Melbourne, Rio de Janeiro, and various European cities, while considering complexities in Asian markets like Japan. Although a Super Bowl held internationally isn’t a current priority, the NFL aims to increase its global presence, with a long-term goal of 16 international games.
