Buccaneers Activate Fifth-Year Option for DT Calijah Kancey
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have exercised the fifth-year option for defensive tackle Calijah Kancey, extending his contract through the 2027 season at approximately $14.5 million guaranteed. Kancey, the 19th overall pick from the University of Pittsburgh, faced injury challenges, missing 14 games last year and significant time in previous seasons. Despite this, he led the team with 7.5 sacks in 2024 and aims to play every game going forward. Kancey is expected to step into a leadership role following the retirement of longtime captain Lavonte David and assist fellow Miami native and rookie Rueben Bain Jr.
