Players continue to use smelling salts despite NFL rule: “It’s a meathead thing”

Players still utilize smelling salts despite NFL regulation: “Just a silly tradition”

The NFL has prohibited teams from providing smelling salts to players during training camp due to player safety concerns. However, players like 49ers tight end George Kittle can still use them if they bring their own supply. Kittle uses smelling salts before every offensive possession and supplies them to teammates as well. The ban was prompted by an FDA warning about the safety of ammonia inhalants. Despite the ban, players continue to use them, including 49ers guard Nick Zakelj who has been using them since high school. Coach Kyle Shanahan supports players finding a way to use smelling salts, as Kittle has done.
