Panthers’ Dowdle fined for ‘2-pump’ celebration

Panthers’ Dowdle receives fine for ‘brief celebration’

David Newton is an NFL reporter for ESPN covering the Carolina Panthers. Panthers running back Rico Dowdle was fined $14,491 for an unsportsmanlike celebration after a touchdown against the Green Bay Packers. Dowdle, inspired by a “Key & Peele” sketch, announced he will donate the fine money to Children’s Home Society of North Carolina via a GoFundMe. Actor Keegan-Michael Key, creator of the sketch, defended Dowdle for only doing two pumps. Despite the penalty, Dowdle’s teammates were not fined. Dowdle missed practice due to a quad injury unrelated to the celebration, but is expected to play against the New Orleans Saints.
