Napa and Sonoma county schools show improved test scores, but still lag behind state average
English, math, and science scores improved for Napa and Sonoma county students in the 2024-25 school year, but still remain below California averages and pre-pandemic levels. Statewide, about half of students met standards in English, with lower rates in Napa and Sonoma counties. Socioeconomically disadvantaged students also scored lower than their peers in both counties. Despite progress, Governor Gavin Newsom emphasized the need for continued efforts to support schools and students. Districts like St. Helena Unified and Petaluma City Schools showed strong performance, while others, such as Calistoga Joint Unified and Sonoma Valley Unified, faced challenges. Targeted support programs are needed to address these disparities.
