Israeli-Russian graduate student kidnapped in Iraq has been rescued, Trump and family confirm
Princeton University doctoral student Elizabeth Tsurkov, who was kidnapped in Iraq in 2023, has been freed after more than 900 days in custody. Tsurkov, who holds Israeli and Russian citizenship, was held by a Shiite Muslim militant group called Kataeb Hezbollah. Officials from multiple countries confirmed she was alive and being held in Iraq. Tsurkov’s family expressed happiness at her release and thanked U.S. special presidential envoy Adam Boehler for his efforts. Tsurkov was kidnapped shortly after back surgery, and the only proof of her being alive during captivity was a video broadcast in November 2023.
