Commanders Stadium Plan to be Voted on by D.C. Council on Aug. 1

The D.C. Council is set to vote on legislation allowing the Washington Commanders to return to RFK Stadium. The revised plan includes a $3.7 billion redevelopment project with a new stadium, housing units, retail space, and parkland. The District would contribute $1 billion and the team would fund $2.7 billion. The development could generate $26.6 billion in tax revenue over 30 years. President Trump threatened to block federal support unless the team reverted to the name “Redskins.” Mayor Bowser praised the plan as a significant economic development project for D.C. The team aims to open a new venue by 2030.
