Bears cut ties with Walker and Everett in a move to create salary cap relief

Courtney Cronin, who covers the Chicago Bears for ESPN, reported on the team’s release of defensive end DeMarcus Walker and tight end Gerald Everett. The moves saved the Bears $10.75 million in salary cap space. Walker, who was set to make $5.2 million in the final year of his contract, started 29 games over two seasons in Chicago. Everett, who signed a two-year, $12 million contract last March, was rarely used in the Bears’ offense. The team targeted him in free agency due to his previous ties to former Bears’ offensive coordinator Shane Waldron. Everett’s release saved the Bears $5.5 million in cap space.
