NFLPA vetoes quarterback rule change, emergency QB still must be on 53-man roster

NFLPA Rejects Proposed Quarterback Rule Change, Emergency QB Still Required on 53-Man Roster

The NFL owners approved a rule allowing emergency third quarterbacks to be called up from the practice squad, but the NFL Players Association vetoed the change. The original rule required the emergency third quarterback to be on the 53-man roster. With the veto, teams must now decide whether to keep an additional quarterback on their final roster as roster cuts are underway. The deadline to get each team down to 53 players is Tuesday, Aug. 27 at 4 p.m. ET.
