NFL wins lawsuit over ‘Sunday Ticket’ verdict
A federal judge in Los Angeles overturned a jury’s $4.7 billion verdict in a class action lawsuit filed by “Sunday Ticket” subscribers against the NFL. The judge ruled that the testimony of two witnesses had flawed methodologies and should have been excluded. The jury had found the NFL liable for $4.7 billion in damages for violating antitrust laws in distributing out-of-market Sunday afternoon games. The NFL was awarded judgment based on the flaws in the witnesses’ testimonies. The lawsuit covered millions of residential and commercial subscribers who paid for the premium subscription service. The NFL welcomed the ruling and looks forward to the 2024 season.
