NFL ordered to pay $4.7 billion in damages following Sunday Ticket broadcast lawsuit
A US district court jury has ruled that the NFL violated antitrust laws by distributing out-of-market Sunday games on a premium subscription service, awarding nearly $4.7bn in damages. The lawsuit covered 2.4m residential subscribers and 48,000 businesses who bought the package. The league has been ordered to pay $4bn to the residential class and $96m to the commercial class. The NFL plans to appeal the verdict, arguing that its media distribution strategy is fan-friendly. The case is set to go to the ninth circuit and possibly the Supreme Court. The lawsuit was originally filed in 2015 and reinstated in 2019 after being initially dismissed.
