Cardinals preparing for possibility that teams will concede the 30-yard line on kickoffs

Cardinals ready for teams conceding the 30-yard line on kickoffs

Under the NFL’s new kickoff rule, touchbacks will now be placed at the 30-yard line, giving returners a better chance to make big plays. Some teams may opt to kick the ball through the end zone rather than risk a long return. General Manager Monti Ossenfort of the Cardinals anticipates touchbacks becoming more common, with offenses starting from the 30 instead of the previous 25-yard line. Different teams may approach kickoffs differently, either by actively covering returns or conceding the extra five yards. The NFL implemented the new rule to encourage returns, but if they become too successful, kickers may resort to consistently kicking the ball out of the end zone.
