From Sliding into the NFL’s DMs to Signing with the Saints: The Journey of an Irish Kicker
After reaching out to the NFL in 2019, Irish kicker Charlie Smyth finally got his chance in 2024 when the New Orleans Saints signed him through the International Player Pathway Program. Smyth, who had never kicked an American football until August 2023, impressed scouts with his kicking ability and determination. Despite facing tough competition, Smyth aims to secure a spot on the 53-man roster and hopes to inspire young athletes in his home country of Ireland. With support from kicking coach Tadhg Leader, Smyth continues to work hard to achieve his dream of playing in the NFL.
