Re-signing Isaiah Simmons: Exploring the role of the hybrid defender in Shane Bowen’s scheme for the Giants
The New York Giants have agreed to terms with former first-round pick Isaiah Simmons for a one-year deal. Simmons will have a hybrid role as a safety and linebacker in the Giants’ new defensive scheme under Shane Bowen. He played safety last season, recording 50 tackles, an interception, sack, and three passes defended. Simmons was previously with the Arizona Cardinals, where he struggled to find a steady position. In New York, he could play a versatile role similar to Malik Hooker. Simmons will compete for playing time with Jalen Mills and Jason Pinnock at safety, as well as Micah McFadden at linebacker. The specifics of his role will be determined during the summer.
