Retirement announced by former star linebacker of the Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys made surprise releases last week, parting ways with Michael Gallup and Leighton Vander Esch to get under the salary cap. Vander Esch is medically retiring from football due to a neck injury last season, which has plagued his career. His neck issues began in college, leading to his decision to retire for his long-term health. Vander Esch had a successful NFL career with 469 tackles, 3.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and a Pro Bowl nod as a rookie in 2018. The Cowboys have already signed Eric Kendricks as Vander Esch’s replacement, as the linebacker chose to play in Dallas under new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer.
