Joe Schmidt, a former Lions linebacker and coach, received a Pro Football Hall of Fame ring in 2015 in Detroit. Known as a legendary NFL star and middle linebacker, he was a key player for the Lions in the 1950s, leading the team to a NFL championship in 1957. Schmidt was recognized for his overachieving talents which helped him reach the Pro Bowl with the Lions. Despite his violent playing style, Schmidt was recognized for his gentle disposition off the field. He loved to sing and even performed at his daughter’s wedding. Now at 92, his humble nature and contributions to football history are admired.
