Commanders shake up coaching staff after yet another humiliating defeat
Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera’s job is safe for now, but defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio was fired after a Thanksgiving loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Defensive backs coach Brent Vieselmeyer was also let go. Rivera is expected to take over defensive play-calling. The team’s defense has struggled this season, giving up the most points and 29th most yards in the league. The Commanders’ recent losses and overall performance are putting Rivera’s job in jeopardy, with the team not having a winning season under his leadership. Del Rio had been the defensive coordinator since 2020, with the unit performing well in 2020 and 2022, but showing inconsistency and poor performance in 2021 and 2023.
