Chris Jones, Chiefs agree to new 1-year contract to end holdout

Chiefs and Chris Jones Reach Agreement on New One-Year Contract, Ending Holdout

Kansas City Chiefs star defensive tackle Chris Jones has ended his holdout and agreed to a new one-year deal with the team. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed. General Manager Brett Veach praised Jones as an elite player and leader and expressed the team’s priority in keeping him. Jones had held out all offseason and training camp, missing the team’s Week 1 loss to the Detroit Lions, in hopes of receiving a new contract. He was fined $50,000 for each day he did not report, accumulating at least $2 million in fines. Jones has been a key force on the Chiefs’ defense and was named an All-Pro four times in the last five years.
