85-year-old Maxie Baughan, celebrated linebacker for the Eagles and Rams, passes away; leaves behind a legacy of nine Pro Bowl appearances and an NFL championship
Maxie Baughan, one of the NFL’s top linebackers in the 1960s, passed away at the age of 85. Baughan played 12 seasons in the NFL, earning Pro Bowl nods for nine of them. He was initially drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 1960 and quickly became a starter, helping the team win the league championship in his rookie year. After a trade to the Los Angeles Rams, Baughan reached the divisional round of the playoffs twice. He then pursued a coaching career, serving as a defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for various NFL teams, as well as the head coach of Cornell University. Baughan’s contributions to the game earned him a place in the Eagles Hall of Fame and he is currently a semifinalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
