Former Buccaneers, Jaguars RB unharmed after car catches fire during drive

Free agent running back Leonard Fournette was unharmed Tuesday after his SUV caught fire while he was driving the vehicle.

The 28-year-old posted a video on Instagram to inform fans of the scary incident.

According to an ESPN and Reuters report, Fournette’s location is unclear, as is the cause of the fire.

The No. 4 overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft spent the first three seasons of his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars, helping the franchise make one of their three conference championship games in team history as a rookie. Fournette finished third in the NFL with a still-career-high nine rushing touchdowns in 2017 and added four more in the postseason.

Arguably his best regular season was in 2019 though, when he posted career bests in rushing yards (1,152), receptions (76) and yards from scrimmage (1,674).

Fournette played the last three years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and earned the nickname “Playoff Lenny” while helping lead the Bucs to a title during their run to Super Bowl LV.

Despite playing in a career-high 16 games and recording his most rushing attempts (189) since 2019, the LSU product produced only 668 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns for a measly 3.5 yards per carry last season. The underwhelming numbers, combined with the ascension of Rachaad White, led to Fournette’s release at the end of February.

According to Fournette, he requested the release and there was “no bad blood” between him and the Bucs. He further said that Tom Brady’s February retirement influenced his decision to ask to be released.
