SEC Prohibits Athletes from Returning to College Post-Pro Contract Signings
The Southeastern Conference (SEC) has implemented a ban on athletes with professional experience returning to college sports, mirroring a Big Ten policy. The SEC’s statement prohibits member schools from fielding athletes who declared for professional drafts without proper withdrawal or signed pro contracts. Commissioner Greg Sankey has the power to impose penalties on non-compliant programs, including suspending head coaches and cutting budgets. This policy follows court rulings allowing players seeking a fifth year of eligibility to return after NFL training camps. LSU’s Lane Kiffin, who pursued several such players, finds the school at odds with this new rule.
