Individual with Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy Kills Four in NYC Building Housing NFL Headquarters
Shane Tamura, a mass shooter who killed four people and himself in a Manhattan office building, was found to have low-stage chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). This degenerative brain disease is commonly associated with repeated head trauma, primarily in tackle football players. Tamura, who played high school football, left a note expressing anger towards the NFL for not disclosing the dangers of head injuries. While targeting the NFL headquarters, he killed a security guard, an executive, a police officer, and an employee. The connection between CTE and violent behavior remains under study, with evidence showing the damaging effects of head collisions in sports.
