Tomlin believes Heyward will play despite contractual drama.
Brooke Pryor, a reporter for NFL Nation at ESPN, has covered the Pittsburgh Steelers since 2019. Despite Cameron Heyward’s limited participation in training camp due to a contract dispute, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin expects him to play in the season opener against the New York Jets. Heyward, entering his 15th season, has been fighting for a renegotiated contract. The team won’t have rookie Derrick Harmon available due to an MCL sprain, and linebacker Nick Herbig is questionable. Heyward has participated in practice since returning from a brief hold-in but remains frustrated with his contract. The Steelers released veteran wide receiver Robert Woods from the practice squad.
