Desmond Watson, the NFL’s heaviest player, placed on non-football injury list for weight issues by Buccaneers

Desmond Watson, a defensive tackle trying to make the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is starting camp late due to being placed on the non-football injury list because of his weight. Watson, who played at Florida, was signed after going undrafted in April and weighed 464lb at the school’s pro day. He has since lost 25 to 30lb but the team hasn’t set an ideal playing weight for him. Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles said they are working on getting him healthier so he can be on the field more. There is no timetable for his weight loss, but Watson is working with a team nutritionist to reach his goal.
