Buccaneers GM ‘optimistic’ about getting extension done with offensive leader

Buccaneers General Manager is ‘hopeful’ about reaching agreement with key offensive player on contract extension

The Buccaneers have signed several key players to big-money deals this offseason, with left tackle Tristan Wirfs next in line for a monster extension. Wirfs is set to earn $18.24M in 2024 on his fifth-year option, but a long-term deal will likely cost more, potentially resetting the market for his position. General manager Jason Licht is optimistic about reaching a deal soon to reward Wirfs while also ensuring the team’s future success. Despite initially being far from an agreement, progress has been made, and Wirfs could soon be one of the highest-paid tackles in the league. Wirfs has been effective on both sides of the line, earning a Pro Bowl nod in 2023.
