NFL analyst slams Buccaneers GM for choosing to pay Baker Mayfield more than rival QB
During a podcast, NFL Media analyst Dan Hanzus suggested that the Buccaneers should have pursued Kirk Cousins instead of re-signing Baker Mayfield this offseason. Mayfield signed a three-year, $115M deal while Cousins received a four-year, $180M contract with the Falcons. The Falcons are under investigation for tampering with Cousins before free agency. Cousins, who has ties to Atlanta, may not have been a viable option for the Buccaneers. Despite speculation, Mayfield is popular within the Buccaneers organization. Hanzus’ comments may have given motivation to the Falcons, who finished 7-10 in 2023. Overall, the situation is complex with multiple factors at play.
