“Belichick Accused of Kicking Underinflated Footballs Against Kansas City”
New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick raised concerns about underinflated footballs used in the first half of a game against the Kansas City Chiefs. He stated that the kicking footballs were underinflated by 2-2.5 pounds and deferred to the NFL for an explanation. The league’s spokesperson declined to comment. Both teams used the same footballs, and missed field goals and near-out-of-bounds kickoffs were attributed to the underinflation. However, Chiefs’ kicker Harrison Butker said he didn’t notice the underinflation and that it’s common for football pressure to change in cold weather. This is reminiscent of the “deflategate” scandal in 2015, where the Patriots were fined and penalized for underinflated footballs.
