Sweat and Bears Nearing Completion of 4-Year Contract Worth $98M
The Chicago Bears have signed a long-term extension with edge rusher Montez Sweat before his debut against the New Orleans Saints. Sweat, 27, will sign a four-year extension worth $98 million, making him the highest-paid player on the team and the NFL’s fifth-highest paid edge rusher. The Bears acquired Sweat from the Washington Football Team in exchange for a 2024 second-round pick. Sweat is known for his consistent sack production, having recorded at least five sacks in each of the past five seasons. The extension allows the Bears to preserve their franchise tag option for cornerback Jaylon Johnson.
