Sources: NFL, referees break off labor talks amid impasse

Sources: NFL and Referees End Labor Discussions Due to Stalemate

Ongoing negotiations between the NFL and the NFL Referees Association (NFLRA) have stalled, raising concerns as the current collective bargaining agreement expires on May 31. Talks intended for two days concluded after just one session, with both sides unable to reach consensus. The NFL has begun vetting replacement officials, citing the NFLRA’s insistence on raises nearly double those of players and millions in marketing fees. NFLRA executive director Scott Green criticized the league for their lack of negotiation commitment. Meanwhile, the NFL Players Association expressed concern about how the situation affects player working conditions. The NFL proposed a 10% increase in game fees.
