Smyth to keep place for New Orleans Saints

Smyth retains place for New Orleans Saints

New Orleans Saints head coach Kellen Moore confirmed that Charlie Smyth will remain the starting kicker for their upcoming game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Smyth, who made his NFL debut last weekend against the Miami Dolphins, impressed with a 56-yard field goal and an onside kick in a 21-17 loss. The Saints waived Blake Grupe prior to the Dolphins game and signed Cade York, but ultimately decided to keep Smyth in the starting role. Moore praised Smyth’s performance and expressed confidence in his ability to make key kicks. Smyth, a former GAA goalkeeper from Ireland, joined the Saints in March 2024 through the NFL’s international player pathway program.
